The rise in electrical power prices is making us think more about our expenses and the way we use electronic devices. Here are 7 tips to lower your electricity bill enough to feel the difference in your wallet.

1.       Washing machine: cold water is our ally

As well as offering a cost benefit, cold water is also less harmful to fabrics and allows colours to last longer without fading. And there’s no need to worry about your clothes not being as clean! Today’s detergents are formulated to deep clean and remove the toughest stains using cold water.

And remember to fill the washing machine with the load amount suggested by the manufacturer, as this will lead to even more savings and prevent undue wear and tear on the machine.

2.       Unplug unused appliances!

Remember that all appliances consume some energy when they’re not being used. It’s thus advisable to disconnect devices when you’re not using them. This includes phone chargers, computers, TV sets, etc. This will keep your appliances from becoming “energy vampires” and thus curb your billed consumption.

3.       The fridge: the most wasteful household appliance

Don’t waste energy by making your fridge consume more power. Set the refrigeration temperature to 3º C - 7º C and the freezer temperature to approximately -20º C.

If possible, switch it off if you’re going away for a long period of time. Apart from saving money, doing this will keep it in good condition and extend its service life.

Aah! And don’t forget that you consume power every time you open and close the fridge door. We recommend not leaving the door open for very long. And to save even more power, think about exactly what you need to get before opening the fridge.

4.       Don’t open the oven while it’s in use!

This bad habit can waste considerable amounts of heat, so avoid doing it while preparing food unless you really need to. Say hello to LED bulbs!

5.       Say hello to LED bulbs!

If you’re looking for small actions that bring big savings, this tip is for you. LED bulbs consume one tenth of the energy of traditional bulbs, and their service life can be up to 500 times longer!

6.       Close doors and trap in the heat

Closing doors in your home that lead to hallways or corridors creates a heat barrier that will help you maintain a comfortable temperature for a longer period of time.

This trick is the key to making optimal use of the heat generated in the rooms where you spend the most time at home.

7.       Interesting ways to save a little more

Windows and floors are an important barrier to both cold and heat. During the colder months, you can use carpets and curtains to better insulate yourself and keep heating bills down.

Another option is to add window and door insulation materials such as sealing strips or weatherstripping to the bottom of doors. This will provide more insulation.
