Steps to apply for your benefit

    You’ll receive an email with instructions and a list of required information. Read on below to find out what documentation is required in cases of temporary disability or unemployment.

Documentation to be sent

When you apply for a benefit, depending on your situation, we’ll ask you for the following documentation:

For unemployment:

  • Legible copy of your Spanish/foreigner’s ID card.
  • Receipt of loan payments made as of the date of the loss, with a breakdown of principal and interest.
  • Copy of your most recent permanent employment contract.
  • Up-to-date and complete employment history report that proves at least 30 days of unemployment. You can download it from the Social Security website.
  • In the event of an ERE (Company Redundancy Plan), ERTE (Temporary Redundancy Plan) or legally sanctioned dismissal, additional information may be required. We’ll tell you what’s needed over the phone when you report the claim.
  • Any other necessary documentation required for processing.

 

In case of temporary disability:

  • Legible copy of your Spanish/foreigner’s ID card.
  • Receipt of loan payments made as of the date of the loss, with a breakdown of principal and interest.
  • Medical leave certificates issued by the Social Security administration or other competent body that accredit the insured’s temporary disability and justify at least 30 days of temporary disability.
  • Medical History or Medical Certificate specifying the date and origin of the illness, as well as the insured’s evolution and status. The certificate must specifically state whether there’s anything in the medical history relating to the cause of disability, and if so the dates of diagnosis and treatment followed.
  • In the event of hospitalisation or accident, additional information may be required. We’ll tell you what’s needed over the phone when you report the claim.
  • Any other necessary documentation required for processing.

How can I check the capital sums and covers of my insurance?

Whenever you need to, you can view the sums insured and the cover included in your policy in your BS Online private area. To do so, enter the private area and select the product you wish to view.

How do I report a claim for my Payment insurance?

Is payment protection insurance compulsory?

No. The law only requires people to have certain types of insurance such as car insurance. It’s true that if you have a mortgage, having payment insurance gives you peace of mind knowing that should the unexpected occur, you can meet your mortgage payments without any problems.
