Sabadell Seguros donates €10,000 to the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer for the “Development of new HER2+ breast cancer treatments” project

On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day (19 October) Sabadell Seguros, through its Life Care Woman life insurance policy, donated €10,000 to support the efforts of the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (Spanish Cancer Association) to fight the illness. This assistance will be directed specifically to support the research project “Development of new HER2+ breast cancer therapies” headed by Dr Gemma Moreno. The aim of the project is to promote the development of new personalised cancer treatments that are both more targeted and less toxic to patients.

To commemorate this day Sabadell Seguros CEO Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi, director of scientific dissemination at Fundación Científica AECC Naiara Cambas, and UAM professor and researcher at CIBERONC Dr Gemma Moreno participated in this video, which summarises the project’s progress and encourages greater awareness of the need to invest in cancer research:

The results of the AECC project will have two clinical uses. The first is to help prevent tumour resistance to anti-HER2 therapies, and the second is to prevent metastasis, especially to the brain, which is one of the biggest challenges in oncology today. Its ultimate goal is to develop new and patentable therapeutic options and make them available to patients with these aggressive tumours within a short time frame.

Collaboration with the Asociación Contra el Cáncer has become a fundamental pillar for Sabadell Seguros. And projects such as this one led to the 2018 launch of Life Care Woman, a life insurance policy that contributes €3 per policy to research against female cancer and pays insured individuals a benefit at the time of diagnosis of up to €70,000, which can be used for unforeseen expenses as they see fit. The ultimate aim is to minimise cancer’s economic and psychological impact and thus allow each patient to focus on herself and her fight.

In 2022, thanks to Life Care Woman, €12,000 has also been donated to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu for the construction of the SJD Paediatric Cancer Center Barcelona, Europe’s largest paediatric oncology centre. In addition, €20,000 was donated to the AECC’s Comprehensive Care Project for Women with Cancer. And since 2018, Sabadell Seguros has contributed €154,000 to support scientific research as well as cancer centres and associations. This is just one example of the company’s present and future commitment to society
