Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi named new CEO of BanSabadell Seguros Generales, BanSabadell Vida and BanSabadell Pensiones

The board of directors of the companies in which Banco Sabadell and Zurich have a 50/50 stake and that market insurance through the bank’s branch network have named Bernardino Gómez Aritmendi as CEO.

“It gives me enormous satisfaction to lead this project and continue with the strategy of driving sustainable and profitable growth, where we put the customer at the centre by offering comprehensive protection and savings products,” said Gómez Aritmendi. “Since its creation in 2008, Sabadell Seguros has become a strategic benchmark in the Spanish bancassurance market, as reflected in the evolution of the business during its 14 years of existence.”

Gómez Aritmendi joined Zurich Group in 2009, where he has held various positions, including COO of Zurich Vida in Spain and Chief Customer, Operations, IT and Digital Officer at Zurich Santander Insurance America for 7 years.  He leaves his position as CEO of Zurich Santander México, where he has significantly increased sales, launched a successful savings business, led the digital business to double-digit growth and established Zurich Santander México as a leader in sustainability through its offer of insurance for vulnerable groups.

He now takes over replacing Claudio Chiesa, who will be continuing his career within the Zurich Group. Under his leadership, Sabadell Seguros has grown its business significantly thanks mainly to its enhancement of the customer value proposition and its innovative focus on data analytics, with the overall aim of improving the customer experience. Also noteworthy is the fact that the companies have grown while maintaining very solid solvency ratios at year-end 2021 (BSV 237%, BSSG 196%).

During this time, Sabadell Seguros has demonstrated its present and future commitment to sustainability, once again putting people at the centre of what it does.

The new CEO of Sabadell Seguros holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics with a specialisation in finance and business from CUNEF University, and a Master’s degree in finance and management control from IE Business School.
